Thank you for all we've achieved together in 2022

What a year for end-of-life choice in Australia! And 2023 is set to be even bigger.

We are so grateful for your support this year. It has made all the difference and moved us closer to our vision of an Australia where every dying person has choice at the end of life.

Together we have

  • Ensured NSW joined every other state in passing a voluntary assisted dying (VAD) law

  • Won back the right of the Northern Territory and ACT to decide for themselves on VAD

  • Celebrated three years of access to compassionate VAD in Victoria, one year in Western Australia and the start of Tasmania’s VAD law

  • Assisted Queensland’s VAD implementation process ahead of its law’s commencement on 1 January

  • Persuaded the South Australian government to bring forward the start date of its VAD law by three months to 31 January 2023

  • Encouraged more than 1,000 healthcare professionals to complete the VAD training nationally

To all of you who helped make these successes possible - thank you.

In 2023, we will work towards

  • Nationwide access to voluntary assisted dying, including laws in the ACT and NT

  • Allowing Telehealth and email to be used for VAD assessments

  • Adding VAD to the Medicare Benefits Schedule so health professionals can be properly recognised

  • Remove state residency requirements for VAD so dying Australians can be with loved ones at the end of life

As this year draws to a close, we wish you a peaceful and safe holiday season. Please note, the Go Gentle office will be closed from 23 December and will reopen on 9 January.

We look forward to reconnecting in the new year.
