2025 Webinar Series

5 August - Dying to Know Day 2025 webinar - VAD: An intergenerational conversation

Hosted by Go Gentle's Dr Linda Swan, this webinar explores the ways families and friends can work together to fulfill a dying loved one's final wishes.

On the panel:

Dr Carolyn Lawlor-Smith OAM
Carolyn has worked as a GP in Adelaide for over 40 years and was instrumental in the passage of VAD laws in South Australia. One of the first South Australian doctors to be trained in VAD, she travels all over the state to provide VAD care and was recently awarded an OAM for her services to the community.

Sarah Gilbert
Sarah and her brothers accompanied their father to Switzerland to access an assisted death in 2021 before VAD was legal in South Australia. Sarah says helping her dad, David, who had Motor Neurone Disease, achieve his final wish meant the world: "We spent the most special last few days together. He got to choose to leave with dignity, the way he wanted to."

Mitchell Warnock
Mitch's terminally ill mum, Jan, chose VAD in Queensland in 2023, aged 68. Knowing how many people loved her, Mitch encouraged Jan to throw one last party - a living wake. "It was such a fun night, a great send off, and that's what Jan wanted."

19 March - Who can apply for voluntary assisted dying? Your questions answered

VAD is now available in all six Australian states. However many people are unsure about the application process and what's involved.

Hosted by Go Gentle's Dr Linda Swan, this webinar aims to demystify the VAD process so you can know your rights at the end of life.

On the panel:

Dr Clare Fellingham
Clare has worked in both obstetric anaesthesia and Palliative Care, and led the VAD implementation in her health service in Perth. Clare became one of the first practitioners in WA to offer VAD and is committed to patient focused autonomy and choice in end-of-life care.

Susan Jury
Susan is a clinical nurse consultant, Director of Voluntary Assisted Dying Australia and New Zealand (VADANZ), and leads the Victorian voluntary assisted dying navigator service, which provides information and support on all aspects of VAD.

Professor Ben White
Ben White is Professor of End-of-Life Law and Regulation in the Australian Centre for Health Law Research at QUT.
