Gillian White's mother

My mother had been a strong opponent of assisted dying all her life until at the end of her life she was dying of fibrosis of the lungs, she was in pain, gasping for breath, too weak to control her bodily wastes and due to lack of oxygen fearful of losing her keen mind.

She felt the indignity of wearing nappies very keenly. The most effective pain medications also depressed her breathing even further despite being on oxygen. She pleaded with everyone to help her end this suffering. The end after weeks of suffering was a relief to us all. She was a wealthy woman with health insurance and private health care with no expense spared.
