'There is no time to wait.'
Lori Martin has a progressive and incurable lung condition. She wants the option of an assisted death. But she lives in the NT, the only place in Australia that has not passed a VAD law.
Katherine local Lori Martin has lived a life filled with adventure and contribution to her community. Now, diagnosed with a progressive and incurable lung condition, she wants the option of Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD), should her illness become too much for her to bear.
She was 54 when she was diagnosed with COPD - chronic obstructive pulmonary disease - a degenerative condition that slowly suffocates its victims.
Lori says, when the time comes, she wants to be able to consider all her optons. But she lives in the NT, the only place in Australia where VAD is not lawful. The NT Chief Minister has said drafting a VAD law is "not a priority".
But for Lori, it's urgent.
"They need to start the process now, so it’s not too late for me."
