Thank you for all we've achieved together in 2023
2023 has been an incredible year for end-of-life choice in Australia and we are so grateful for all your support. We couldn't have done it without you.
Together we have:
-
celebrated the introduction of voluntary assisted dying in Queensland, South Australia, and New South Wales
-
recognised four years of access to VAD in Victoria, two years in Western Australia, and one year in Tasmania
-
contributed to a compassionate and ambitious VAD bill in the ACT
-
applauded the Northern Territory Government's decision to begin community consultations on what a proposed VAD law might look like
-
hosted the inaugural Voluntary Assisted Dying Conference, attended by 400 practitioners, policy makers and advocates
-
helped establish VADANZ - the first peak body for VAD practitioners in Australia and New Zealand
-
told the stories of the people who choose VAD and those who help them
-
completed the first annual VAD survey attracting almost 3000 responses.
To all of you who helped make these successes possible - thank you. We couldn't have done it without your support.
In 2024 we will:
-
ensure VAD laws progress in the ACT and NT so every single terminally ill Australian has choice at the end of life
-
redouble of efforts to reform the Commonwealth Criminal Code so electronic communications can be used in VAD services
-
continue to advocate for the removal of unnecessary barriers to access and a sustainable VAD system.
As this year draws to a close, we wish you a relaxing and safe holiday season.
Please note, the Go Gentle office will close on Friday 22 December and reopen on Monday 8 January.
We look forward to reconnecting in the new year.
